A slim hallway console table in solid wood
A hallway console table is judged first on its depth: between 25 and 40 cm for most of ours, enough for keys, post and a tray for loose change without narrowing the corridor. The tops are cut from dense, stable oak, from teak that shrugs off damp, from deep-toned walnut or from boldly grained acacia, sometimes set on a black metal frame or paired with a marble top. No veneer and no chipboard: the wood is solid through, part of the range is FSC®-certified, and the grain stays visible right where your hand rests on it every day.
Hallway shoe storage: closed, shallow, in solid wood
Shoes are what clutters a hallway fastest. Shoe storage should therefore be chosen like a hallway console table: shallow enough to leave the corridor clear, closed so the pairs disappear, and in a wood that copes with damp soles, teak first, oiled oak next. Ours follows the same standards as the rest of the range: fronts in solid wood rather than chipboard that swells at the first puddle, doors and drawers that close without play, and a height that leaves room for a bag or a tray on top. For everyday pairs, a console table with doors already does the job very well.
Hallway furniture built to last and to gain a patina
Our console tables and hallway furniture are built with traditional joinery, mortise-and-tenon and grooved drawer bases, with no exposed screws and no industrial glue, then finished with plant-based oil, water-based varnish or paint on the pine versions. Depending on the model, the console arrives assembled or with only its legs to fix: a few minutes, not an evening. Then solid wood does the rest. Brushed past ten times a day, loaded and unloaded at every homecoming, it gains a patina rather than wearing out, and can be sanded and re-oiled when a scratch becomes too visible. And when a hallway piece no longer suits a home, our Tikagreen programme takes it back, restores it and puts it back into circulation, rather than buying new with every move.
